Kes on pildil?

Bruno Laan sündis 6. mail 1926 Tallinnas, kasvas ja käis koolis Nõmmel kuni gümnaasiumi lõpetamiseni. Saksa okupatsioonivõimu ajal astus lennuväkke, sõjakoledused elas vigastusteta üle.

Peale sõja lõppu Saksamaal astus Bruno Laan Balti Ülikooli Münchenis ja siis Karlsruhe Ülikooli. Peale immigreerumist USAsse jätkas ta õpinguid MITs Bostonis, mille lõpetas magistrikraadiga. Alaliseks elukohaks sai Los Angeles, kus ta töötas firmas Fluor 33 aastat insenerina, korraldades ettevõtte projekte üle terve maailma.
Los Angelese eesti ühiskonnas on Bruno olnud laulukooris, rahvatantsija ja välisvõitleja, kui oli vaja toetada Eesti iseseisvust. EOLLi esimehena korraldas Bruno 1979. a  esinduslikud Lääneranniku Eesti päevad Los Angeleses. Ta on olnud aastaid Los Angelese Eesti Maja juhatuses, oli 16 aastat selle esimees. Bruno on teinud tohutu töö Eestisse abipakkide ja hiljem raamatute saatmisel.

Bruno Laan was born May 6th, 1926, in Tallinn.  He grew up attending school in Nõmme until finishing high school.  During the Nazi occupation, he joined their Air Force.  He survived the war without injury and immediately afterwards started college in Munich, Germany at the Baltic University and from there went to Karlsruhe University.  After immigrating to America, he continued his education at MIT in Boston where he earned a Master’s Degree.  After moving to Los Angeles which became his home, he worked for Fluor Corporation for 33 years as an engineer and traveled world wide as a project director.

As an active member of the Los Angeles Estonians community, Bruno has been and/or is a member of the Los Angeles Mixed Chorus, folkdance group and a freedom fighter when the need arose in the fight for Estonia’s independence.  As president of the EOLL, Bruno organized the 1979 Los Angeles West Coast Estonian Days festivities.  He has been a member of the LA Estonian House leadership for years, holding the office of president for 16 of them.  Bruno’s work with respect to providing aid packages to Estonians in Estonia has been enormous, as has his work with sending books to Estonia.
